Gainers outpace losers on Bursa but buying weak

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower today on weak buying momentum, dealers said.

At 9.17am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 2.26 points lower at 1,887.29 after opening 0.81 point easier at 1,888.74.

A dealer said buying power was weaker than selling pressure. “For the index, immediate significant hurdles are at 1,900 and 1,934. Immediate support remains at the 30-day moving average at 1,875, followed by the 50-day moving average level at 1,870,” he said.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index fell 37.201 points to 17,218.19, the Plantation Index declined 25.75 points to 9,278.38 but the Industrial Index improved 4.61 points to 3,248.29.

The FBM Emas Index contracted 6.67 points to 13,066.68, the FBMT100 Index eased 6.601 points to 12,697.26, while the FBM 70 increased 25.94 points to 14,192.11 and the FBM Ace rose 19.64 points to 6,721.77.

Market breadth was positive as gainers outpaced losers 161 to 109, while 194 counters were unchanged, 1,165 untraded and 39 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 182.5 million shares worth RM123.44 million.

Among actives, 1Utopia edged up half-a-sen to six sen, Boustead gained two sen to RM1.62 and MAS earned one sen to 20.5 sen. Iris and JAG were flat at 42.5 sen and 38 sen respectively.

Heavyweights Maybank added two sen to RM9.85, TNB gained four sen to RM12.24 while Public Bank lost 10 sen to RM19.92. CIMB and Axiata were flat at RM7.31 and RM6.99 respectively. — Bernama
