KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed at a new all-time high of 1,892.33 today, up 8.37 points from yesterday’s close, boosted by bullish external sentiment. The key index’s previous high was 1,887.07 recorded on May 19.
Maybank Investment Bank regional chartist Lee Cheng Hooi said the local stock market was in tandem with regional markets, which were up after China posted strong data for June.
“No particular obvious factor had caused the market to run up. Regional markets were initially sluggish, then the news that China’s Purchasing Managers Manufacturing Index for June rose to 50.8 lifted sentiment,” he told Bernama.
On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index rose 48.65 points to 9,316.87, the Finance Index appreciated 22.611 points to 17,289.23 and the Industrial Index improved 21.48 points to 3,247.79.
The FBM Emas Index expanded 53.63 points to 13,099.2, the FBMT100 Index went up 52.66 points to 12,727.19, the FBM 70 was 44.8 points firmer at 14,210.09 but the Ace Index fell 38.09 points to 6,731.29.
Market breadth was positive as advancers outpaced decliners by 452 to 396, with 307 counters unchanged, 473 untraded and 16 others suspended.
Total volume rose to 1.93 billion shares worth RM2.11 billion from yesterday’s 1.76 billion shares worth RM1.94 billion.
Among actives, Sumatec Resources added 3.5 sen to 31 sen, but MAS lost two sen to 20.5 sen and Asia Media erased one sen to 8.5 sen. Talam Transform was flat at 10.5 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank added three sen to RM9.83, TNB perked 22 sen to RM12.06 and Petronas Gas chalked up 40 sen to RM24.70. Public Bank lost four sen to RM20.14 while CIMB was flat at RM7.33.
Main Market volume rose to 1.52 billion units worth RM2.03 billion from yesterday’s 1.33 billion units worth RM1.86 billion.
Turnover on the ACE market declined to 333.03 million shares valued at RM66.73 million from 353.75 million shares valued at RM73.44 million previously.
Warrants increased to 37.18 million units worth RM5.76 million from 27.47 million units worth RM4.42 million yesterday.
Consumer products accounted for 79.82 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 267.56 million, construction 68.38 million, trade and services 797.15 million, technology 69.41 million, infrastructure 19.37 million, SPAC 42.36 million, finance 45.56 million, hotels 5.77 million, properties 103.63 million, plantations 20.5 million, mining 197,600, REITs 5.45 million and closed/fund 14,500. — Bernama
