Share prices remain lower at mid-afternoon weighed down by blue chips

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-afternoon, dragged down by selling in blue chips and index-linked counters, a dealer said.

The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,876.15, down 5.01 points, as sentiments were overweighed by overnight loses on Wall Street.

The Plantation Index eased 16.42 points to 9,314.21, the Finance Index fell 52.47 points to 17,050.95 and the Industrial Index slipped 2.39 points to 3,199.56. The FBM Emas Index was 29.68 points lower at 12,946.29, the FBMT100 Index declined 28.68 points to 12,597.06, the FBM 70 trimmed 12.4 points to 13,981.14 and the FBM Ace erased 43.81 points to 6,636.58.

Losers led gainers 480 to 234, while 324 counters were unchanged, 588 untraded and 23 others were suspended. Turnover stood at 1.28 billion shares worth RM1.09 million.

Heavyweights Maybank lost four sen to RM9.93, Public Bank and TNB fell 10 sen each to RM19.76 and RM12.18 respectively, while Axiata and CIMB shed one sen each to RM7.37 and RM6.97 respectively.

Among actives, MAS gained one sen to 17.5 sen, but 1Utopia slipped half-a-sen to six sen. — Bernama
