KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended above the 1,800-point level, lifted by gains in selected heavyweights.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished the day 10.69 points better at 1,808.59 points, after hovering between 1,797.84 and 1,812.18.
Heavyweights Tenaga jumped 30 sen to RM11.74, DiGi rose 12 sen to RM4.97, Maybank gained 10 sen to RM9.80 and CIMB added 9.0 sen to RM7.01.
A dealer said the stronger performance staged by the local equities market was in line with regional peers, prompted by signs that the US nonfarm payrolls report could put some global growth concerns to rest.
Market breadth was positive as gainers thumped losers 542 to 256, while 324 counters were unchanged, 471 untraded and 18 others were suspended.
Volume rose to 1.86 billion shares worth RM2.2 billion from 1.83 billion shares worth RM2.2 billion recorded yesterday.
Iris, which remained the most actively trade stock today, rose half-a-sen to 45.5 sen while Winsun gained 1.0 sen to 9.0 sen. — Bernama
