KL shares remain mixed at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — Stocks on Bursa Malaysia remained mixed in mid-morning trade on continued profit taking in selected heavyweights led by Nestle which shed 40 sen to RM67.60, dealers said. 

At 11am the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 2.09 points lower at 1,827.09 after opening at 1,832.69.

However, gains in other consumer-related stocks managed to cap some of the losses.

British American Tobacco gained 52 sen to RM63.70, while Hup Seng Industries added 24 sen for RM7.10, and IQ Group increased 23 sen to RM1.24.

Market breath was positive as gainers led losers by 304 to 278, with 274 counters unchanged, 690 untraded and 21 others suspended.   

Turnover amounted to 667.64 shares valued at RM453.19 million.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 20.109 points to 16,791.01, the Plantation Index dropped 20.92 points to 8,749.74 and the Industrial Index was 4.8 points higher at 3,108.6.

The FBM Emas Index lost 10.09 points to 12,657.87, the FBMT100 Index declined 12.29 points to 12,369.66, the FBM Ace improved 24.67 points to 5,809.87, with the FBM 70 falling 6.53 points to 14,130.37.

Among actives, Hubline, Tiger Synergy and Ingenuity Consolidated were flat at 6.5 sen, 14 sen and nine sen, respectively.

As for the heavyweights, Maybank gained five sen to RM9.98, Tenaga fell six sen to RM11.06 and Axiata declined one sen to RM6.79. — Bernama
