KL shares remain higher at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon today as selected heavyweights and lower liners attracted retail investors to participate actively in the market, dealers said.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was 1.5 points higher at 1,830.68 after opening at 1,832.69.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 44.65 points to 16,815.55, the Plantation Index dropped 17.08 points to 8,753.58 and the Industrial Index was 5.53 points higher at 3,109.33.

The FBM Emas Index gained 10.85 points to 12,678.81, the FBMT100 Index rose 6.63 points to 12,388.58, and the FBM Ace improved 24.54 points to 5,809.74.But the FBM 70 dipped 6.311 points to 14,130.59.

Meanwhile, gainers led losers 373 to 336, with 304 counters unchanged, 533 untraded and 21 others suspended.   

Turnover amounted to 1.18 billion shares worth RM1.02 billion.

Among actives, Hubline, Tiger Synergy and Ingenuity Consolidated were flat at 6.5 sen, 14 sen and nine sen, respectively.

As for heavyweights, Maybank gained five sen to RM9.98, Tenaga rose four sen to RM11.16 and Axiata declined one sen to RM6.79. — Bernama
