KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar for the fourth consecutive day today as investors shifted interest to the safe haven currencies, dealers said.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2320/2350 against the dollar from 3.2250/2290 yesterday.

A dealer said more investors had turned to euro since yesterday, after the European Central Bank gave no fresh hint that it would ease policy anytime soon.

“Its President Mario Draghi said the bank was ready to take fresh policy action to support a fragile recovery. However, he was light on details, including whether the bank would use a negative deposit rate,” he said.

The local unit slipped against the yen to 3.1637/1678 from 3.1590/1641 yesterday and fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.5767/5795 from 2.5685/5737 yesterday.

It strengthened against the British pound to 5.2821/2883 from 5.2838/2917 yesterday and advanced against the euro to 4.3139/3187 from 4.3873/3937 yesterday. — Bernama
