Matrade: Malaysian firms rake in RM170m in sales at Canton Fair 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — Malaysian companies raked in RM170.5 million in total sales, an increase of 30 per cent from last year, at the 114th Canton Fair Phase 3 in Guangzhou, China.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), which led the companies, said the exhibition, from October 31 to November 4, attracted a total of 189,646 foreign buyers from 212 countries.

Forty-eight China trading delegations comprising over 24,000 of its foreign trade corporations and enterprises also visited the exhibition held for the sixth time.

Matrade, which led Malaysian companies to the fair for the sixth time this year, also pre-arranged 207 business meetings for Malaysian exhibitors to meet Chinese importers, agents, distributors and retailers.

“Strong sales were reported for cookies and confectionery, white coffee and fresh fruits, floor cleaners, disposable baby diapers and laundry detergents,” the trade promotion agency said in a statement today.

Apart from China, the Malaysian companies also recorded positive sales from buyers who came from the Middle East, Africa, Turkey, Mexico and India.

A total of 2,500 business enquiries were received during the exhibition, Matrade added. — Bernama
