KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd’s (BHIC) associate company, Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BN Shipyard), signed a RM5.32 million service acquisition agreement today with Might-Meteor Advanced Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (MMAM).
MMAM is a human capital development centre under the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High-Technology (MIGHT).
Under the agreement, BN Shipyard will be provided Korean consulting and advisory services in ship maintenance, repair and overhaul, to enhance its existing service portfolio.
It will optimise the shipyard’s capabilities for its Service Life Extension Programme to upgrade ships whose use can be extended beyond their current certified life.
BHIC Managing Director Tan Sri Datuk Ahmad Ramli Mohd Nor said it is vital that under the Economic Transformation Programme, high tech industries such as BHIC, can be further developed by injecting specialised foreign expertise that allows for knowledge and technology sharing in niche areas.
“By joining hands with MMAM, we are able to acquire Korean best shipyard practices, that in turn allows BN Shipyard to increase productivity and meet delivery goals,” he said in a statement today.
Under the service agreement, MMAM through the Korean specialists will provide BN Shipyard with stringent on-and off-site support in production planning and scheduling at its facilities in Lumut. — Bernama
