Shares traded lower at mid-day on extended losses by heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower today on extended losses of selected heavyweights led by Maybank and CIMB.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 7.09 points easier at 1,785.39, with the market barometer moving between 1,785.06 and 1,791.18.

Maybank lost eight sen to RM9.89 while CIMB erased 11 sen to RM7.79. Both stocks contributed 2.767 points to the key index. 

Decliners edged advancers 349 to 314, with 273 counters unchanged, 647 untraded and 13 others were suspended.

Volume stood at 1.277 billion shares worth RM833.4 million.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index erased 108.96 points to 16,680.51 and the Industrial Index was 8.61 points lower at 3,045.29.

The FBM Emas Index was down 39.04 points to 12,403.89 and the FBM100 Index declined 42.71 points to 12,140.9.

The FBM Ace gained 5.39 points to 5,493.97 but the Plantation Index fell 8.60 points to 8,358.57. 

Among actives, Frontken Corp went up two sen to 9.5 sen, TH Heavy Engineering was 4.5 sen higher at 91 sen, Astral Supreme inched up half-a-sen to 21.5 sen and The Media Shoppe was flat at 17.5 sen. 

Heavyweights, Sime Darby added one sen to RM9.51, Petronas Chemicals and Maxis rose two sen each to RM6.92 and RM7.02, respectively, while Axiata was flat at RM6.90.

TNB eased one sen to RM9.04 and Public Bank declined six sen to RM17.82. — Bernama
