KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-morning today, weighed down by losses in selected heavyweights.
Among heavyweights, Maybank fell four sen to RM10.26, CIMB shed 11 sen to RM7.97, while Axiata and Sime Darby were flat at RM6.91 and RM9.52 respectively.
Hong Leong Investment Bank said the ongoing debate over the US debt ceiling limit and the US Federal Reserve’s deferment of its bond buying programme would continue to trigger volatility in markets.
“The KLCI will remain volatile this week with the trading range from 1,765 to 1,810,” it said in a note today.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index eased 78.69 points to 16,951.57, the Industrial Index gained 6.13 points to 3,055.4, and the Plantation Index improved 5.85 points to 8,339.75.
The FBM Emas Index was down 30.2 points to 12,464.22, and the FBM100 Index declined 27.81 points to 12,205.86, but the FBM Ace perked 58.09 points to 5,418.04.
Decliners led advancers 307 to 215, with 256 counters unchanged, 811 untraded and 23 others suspended.
Volume stood at 817.16 million shares worth RM435.90 million.
Among the actives, The Media Shoppe added four sen to 16.5 sen, NTPM Holdings rose one sen to 63 sen, while Ingenuity Consolidated and Luster Industries were flat at 8.5 sen and 10 sen respectively. – Bernama
