MELAKA, Aug 15 — The Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Melaka aims to rake in RM20 million in sales from tour packages in conjunction with the 10th Melaka International Tourism Show (MITS)2013.

This is in contrast to the RM12 million it bagged last year.

The MITS 2013 will be held over three days from Aug 23 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).

State deputy Tourism, Coastal Development, Rivers and Islands executive council member Datuk Ghazale Muhamad said about 40,000 visitors are expected at the event.

He said it will also see the participation of tourism agencies from Macau, Thailand, Korea and Taiwan.

“The MITS 2013 is an important activity for promoting the tourism sector, both locally and overseas, with holiday packages being offered at reasonable prices,” he told a media conference here today.

Also present was the MATTA Fair Melaka 2013 chairman, Amanda Yau and the director of Tourism Malaysia Melaka, Jefri Munir.

Ghazale said 150 booths would be opened at the exhibition,

The MITS 2013 is expected to be opened by the Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, together with Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron. — Bernama
