Bursa remains higher at mid-morning, interest on heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning today with interest centered around the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI-linked, as well as construction and, oil and gas, small cap companies, dealers said.   

At 11am, the benchmark index stood at 1,793.18, up 8.61 points, with 24 out of 30 companies listed in the index, recording gains.

A dealer said key heavyweights are likely to remain in consolidation, while small caps in the construction and oil and gas sector highlight trading on keen rotational plays.   

On the scoreboard, The Finance Index perked 102.16 points to 17,086.67, the Industrial Index was 12.63 points higher at 3,030.52 and the Plantation Index rose 23.25 points to 8,319.88.

The FBM Emas Index increased 55.09 points to 12,502.66, the FBMT100 Index leapt 50.93 points to 12,233.38, and the FBM70 Index increased 27.881 points to 14,364.94.

The FBM Ace Index however, declined 6.28 points to 5,298.61.

Gainers outpaced losers 364 to 183, with 286 counters unchanged, 740 untraded and 11 others suspended.

Volume stood at 733.12 million shares valued at RM501.64 million.   

Among actives, Luster Industries and Astral Supreme added 1.5 sen to 11 sen and 25 sen respectively, and Flonic climbed half-a-sen to 17.5 sen.

Eti Tech was unchanged at 8.5 sen, while Sona Petroleum slipped one sen to 45 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank added four sen to RM10.52, CIMB perked 10 sen to RM8.06, Axiata gained three sen to RM6.93, Sime Darby earned two sen for RM9.50 and Petronas Chemicals climbed one sen to RM6.61. – Bernama
