Share prices remain low at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained low at mid-afternoon trading, dragged down by losses in selected blue chips.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 3.28 points lower at 1,781.86.

Top losers, RHB Capital shed 22 sen to RM8.08, BAT lost 18 sen to RM63.06,

Hong Leong Capital slipped 13 sen to RM6.15, while Kossan Rubber and Genting Malaysia dwindled 12 sen each to RM5.98 and RM4.28, respectively.    

The Finance Index fell 26.55 points to 16,912.21 while the Plantation Index gained 2.86 points to 8,343.5 and the Industrial Index added 0.5 of a point to 3,020.61.

The FBM Emas Index lost 9.51 points to 12,419.66, the FBM Ace Index dropped 8.2 points to 5,118.23 but the FBM70 Index rose 19.51 points to 14,290.75. 

Decliners edged advancers 327 to 304 while 303 counters were unchanged, 640 untraded and 11 others were suspended.

Total volume stood at 752.507 million shares worth RM908.412 million.   

Among active stocks, Faber Corp soared 55 sen to RM2.35, Instacom Group earned one sen to 36.5 sen but Iris Corp and Daya Materials each shed one sen to 22.5 sen and 32 sen, respectively.

Heavyweights, CIMB and Petronas Chemicals both rose four sen to RM7.89 and RM6.64, respectively, Axiata and Maxis added one sen each to RM6.85 and RM7.09 while Maybank was flat at RM10.40.

Sime Darby eased one sen to RM9.49. – Bernama
