Share prices extend gains on continued buying interest

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia extended gains towards the closing bell on continued buying interest ahead of the Hari Raya holidays, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.63 points to end at 1,785.14 after moving between 1,781.61 and 1,788.93 throughout the day.

In terms of market breadth, the gainers-to-losers ratio was 402 to 346, with 268 counters unchanged, 560 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Market volume jumped to 1.589 billion shares worth RM1.565 billion from 1.229 billion shares valued at RM1.844 billion Friday.    

On the scoreboard, the Finance index rose 93.48 points to 16,938.77, the Industrial index gained 3.55 points to 3,020.11 but the Plantation index lost 7.80 points to 8,340.64.

The FBM Emas Index advanced 24.59 points to 12,429.17, FBM 70 Index perked 46.15 points to 14,271.24, FBMT100 jumped 22.70 points to 12,173.04 and the FBM ACE Index was up 49.06 points to 5,126.43.     

Among actives, Iris Corp added 2.5 sen to 24 sen, Daya Materials rose three sen to 31 sen, Sona Petroleum earned one sen to 43 sen and ETI Tech Corporation added two sen to eight sen.

Meanwhile, PJI Holdings was flat at 12 sen.

In a statement today, Bursa Malaysia Securities announced the change of name of PJI Holdings to YFG Bhd, with effect from Wednesday. 

The company’s stock short names will also be changed to YFG and YFG-WA, respectively.    

Of the heavyweights, Maybank climbed eight sen to RM10.40, CIMB and Axiata each earned one sen to RM7.85 and RM6.84, respectively, but Sime Darby and Maxis each fell one sen to RM9.50 and RM7.08, respectively.

Top gainers, Petronas Dagangan surged 62 sen to RM27.06, Dutch Lady jumped 50 sen to RM46.82 and Pintaras Jaya was up 38 sen to RM5.81.

Volume on the Main Market increased to 1.126 billion units worth RM1.474 billion from 966.308 billion units worth RM1.784 billion Friday.

Turnover on the ACE market rose to 434.336 million shares valued at RM85.268 million from 238.515 million shares valued at RM55.617 million previously.

Warrants was up to 27.952 million units worth RM2.895 million from 23.645 million units worth RM3.084 million last week.

Consumer products accounted for 49.423 million shares on the Main Market, industrial products 113.988 million, construction 32.067 million, trade and services 343.868 million, technology 82.684 million, infrastructure 16.221 million, SPAC 340.665 million, finance 43.012 million, hotels 639,700, properties 81.218 million, plantations 10.697 million, mining 27,000, REITs 12.117 million and closed/fund 20,400. — Bernama
