KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Malaysia-China trade is expected to reach RM321.86 million by year-end, driven by the higher sales of goods to China, said Malaysia Consul General in Guangzhou, Francisco Munis.
Last year, bilateral trade rose by eight per cent to RM180.61 billion even though global economy experienced a slowdown, he said.
He said although the world’s second biggest economy faced uncertainties, the trade target was achievable following the statements by the Chinese government that it was confident of overcoming the problems.
“For the first six months of this year, total trade is expected to reach RM193.12 billion.
“Thus, I am confident that the target is achievable with trade in Malaysia’s favour,” he told Bernama
Munis said this when met at Zhongshan, China, after I-Berhad signed an agreement with Zhongshan City Elephant Sculpture Art Co Ltd to buy wax figurines and related props for its RedCarpet @i-City project.
He said commodities will play a key role and will contribute 80 per cent to total bilateral trade this year.
Among the local products which received full assistance to penetrate the Chinese market were household and electrical products and food, he said.
Munis said almost half of the total trade were via south China, especially Guangzhou.
He said Malaysia was grateful the Chinese government has declared Malaysia as one of its key investment countries. — Bernama
