Share prices remain low at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained low at mid-morning today with persistent selling in most heavyweights, led by CIMB.

At 11.01am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) lost 4.57 points to 1,794.21, after moving between 1,794.03 and 1,800.20.         

On the scoreboard, the Finance index fell 81.77 points to 17,176.83, the Plantation index slipped 14.52 points to 8,372.12 while the Industrial Index edged up 1.85 points to 3,051.91.                    

The FBM Emas Index fell 25.03 points to 12,502.96, the FBMT 100 Index lost 21.76 points to 12,250.30, the FBM ACE Index slipped 27.58 points to 5,049.65 but the FBM 70 Index added 13.31 points to 14,425.27.

In terms of market breadth, the gainer-to-loser ratio was 151 to 376, with 275 counters unchanged, 796 untraded and 43 others suspended.   

Market volume traded was 953.97 million shares valued at RM552.60 million.

Among actives, Malaysia Airlines and Asia Media Group were up by half-a-sen to 31.5 sen and 15.5 sen respectively while Flonic Hi-Tec eased half-a-sen to 12.5 sen. 

Newly-listed Sona Petroleum, which opened at a nine sen discount over its offer price of 50 sen per share this morning, was traded 1.5 sen lower at 41 sen, with a total of 240.995 million lots exchanging hands.

Its warrants, however, went up 15.5 sen to 23 sen with a volume of 402.943 million.                

Of heavyweights, CIMB dipped 13 sen to RM8.18, Maybank eased 12 sen to RM10.58, TNB fell nine sen to RM9 and Genting edged down five sen to RM9.89. – Bernama
