Bursa remain higher at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning today, with the benchmark index staying in positive territory for most of the trading session, dealers said.

At 11am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,808.32, up 3.01 points, after hovering between 1,804.23 and 1,810.6.

Petronas Gas rose 44 sen to RM24.44, while Public Bank advanced 24 sen to RM17.34, with both contributing a total of 2.637 points to the rise of the composite index. 

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 25.49 points to 17,387.4, the Industrial Index increased 10.25 points to 3,075.9 and the Plantation Index improved 1.73 points to 8,436.27.

The FBM Emas Index perked 10.10 points to 12,599.98, the FBMT 100 Index gained 12.3 points to 12,339.37, and the FBM ACE Index slipped 30.84 points to 5,032.82.

However, the FBM 70 Index fell 19.41 points to 14,500.26.

Losers slightly outnumbered gainers by 288 to 266, while 305 counters were unchanged, 737 untraded and 14 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 517.048 million shares worth RM419.43 million.

Among actives, Kinsteel gained 3.5 sen to 31 sen, Flonic Hi-Tec added 1.5 sen to 13 sen, while both The Media Shoppe and Karambunai inched up half-a-sen each to seven sen and 13 sen respectively. But TDM slipped four sen to 93.5 sen.

For the heavyweights, CIMB added one sen to RM8.53, while Maybank, Sime Darby and Maxis were all flat at RM10.72, RM9.54 and RM7.09, respectively.

Axiata Group, however, eased two sen to RM6.81. – Bernama
