KL shares remain lower at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-afternoon today as worries over the global economy’s progress continued to dampen investor appetite, dealers said.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) declined 5.79 points to 1,732.4, compared with yesterday’s closing.

The barometer index hovered between 1,723.74 and 1,743.16 with 1.057 billion shares worth RM1.66 million transacted.

The Finance Index dropped 133.88 points to 16,371.05, but the Industrial Index added 2.37 points to 2,916.75, and the Plantation Index rose 80.85 points to 8,241.24.

The FBM Emas Index fell 51.91 points to 11,980.33 and the FBMT100 Index dipped 48.87 points to 11,766.78, while the FBM Mid 70 Index lost 95.78 points to 13,603.12, with the FBM Ace Index gave up 50.54 points to 4,598.9.

Losers trounced advancers by 541 to 153, while 286 counters were unchanged, 612 untraded and 22 others suspended.

Among actives, TDM gained five sen to 80.5 sen, but Luster Industries lost two sen to 17 sen and MAS shed half-a-sen to 29 sen.

Flonic Hi-Tech was unchanged at eight sen.

As for the heavyweights, both Axiata Group and Petronas Chemicals improved one sen each to RM6.61 and RM6.59, respectively.

Sime Darby, which appointed former Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman as its new Chairman and Director earlier today, saw its share rise four sen to RM9.44.

Meanwhile, Maybank lost 14 sen to RM10.00 and CIMB trimmed five sen to RM8.08. – Bernama
