KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Several Umno leaders in Johor have lodged a police report over the delay in implementing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest, as Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh called for similar reports to be filed nationwide.

Pontian Umno chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, who is also a party supreme council member, lodged the report at the Benut police station at 12.30pm today, accompanied by his deputy Mohd Sumali Reduan, division vice-chief Jamaludin Abd Majid and several grassroots leaders.

“A police report was lodged over the delay in implementing the house arrest order for Najib, which should have been carried out,” Ahmad said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Dr Akmal said Umno Youth branches at state and division levels would lodge police reports to seek an investigation into whether any laws had been breached in delaying the implementation of the royal pardon and related court order.

In a statement today, he urged the government to immediately implement the conditional pardon granted by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, maintaining that all stipulated conditions had been fulfilled.

“On November 6, all conditions were met. The RM50 million fine was paid at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, which then issued a sealed order allowing Datuk Seri Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. The Home Ministry also gazetted his residence as a prison under Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995,” Akmal said.

He argued that further legal proceedings should not delay the implementation of the order.

“Umno Youth demands that His Majesty’s decree be implemented immediately. Any further court reference should not be used as grounds to stall a decree that His Majesty has confirmed to be clear and unambiguous,” he said.

Pasir Gudang Umno Youth was also expected to lodge a similar police report against the Attorney General at the Seri Alam district police headquarters.

The moves follow the Attorney General’s Chambers’ (AGC) call yesterday for Najib’s house arrest to be temporarily deferred pending clarification of legal questions surrounding his conditional pardon.

The AGC said the questions centred on whether payment of the RM50 million fine meant Najib’s remaining prison sentence in the SRC International case continued under house arrest or was deemed completed.

It said the interpretation could affect when Najib’s separate prison sentence in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case should begin.

In a further statement today, the AGC denied attempting to override the King’s authority, maintaining that judicial clarification was necessary to prevent conflicting interpretations of the court orders and ensure their lawful implementation.

Istana Negara, meanwhile, reaffirmed today that the conditional pardon granted on September 18 was clear and unambiguous, and that all stipulated conditions had been fulfilled.

The pardon allows Najib to serve the remainder of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with other conditions.

Najib has been imprisoned since August 2022 following his conviction over the misappropriation of RM42 million in SRC International funds.
