KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah last night graced the official launch of Yayasan Sultan Selangor at a Royal Charity Gala Dinner held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebrations of his reign.

Also present was the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, accompanied by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and his wife Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Datuk Abdul Aziz.

Upon arrival, their Royal Highnesses toured a special exhibition, which featured a retrospective display highlighting Sultan Sharafuddin’s 25-year reign.

In his royal address, Tengku Amir Shah, who chaired the Royal Charity Gala Dinner, said the foundation was a meaningful gift to commemorate his father’s Silver Jubilee, with the aim of creating a lasting impact for generations to come.

“Twenty-five years on the throne is more than a milestone. It is a quarter of a century of service, guidance, and unwavering care for the people of Selangor.

“It is fitting that we mark it not with celebration alone, but with a gift, that will keep giving for generations to come,” he said.

Tengku Amir Shah said Yayasan Sultan Selangor stands on four pillars namely community welfare, education and scholarships, heritage and cultural preservation, as well as emergency assistance.

He said the yayasan would work closely with Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor and Selangor Youth Community to create opportunities, nurture young people and support the welfare of the community.

On the foundation’s education initiative, Tengku Amir Shah said its first Sultan of Selangor Scholar, Atiqah Nor Azlan, began her Master’s in Public Policy at the, University of Oxford, in September.

He expressed hope that many more deserving young Malaysians would benefit from the foundation’s support to study at leading institutions worldwide.

Part of the funds raised at the gala dinner would also be channelled to charitable organisations that had maintained close ties with Sultan Sharafuddin and the Selangor royal family over the past 25 years, he added.

The event also featured a special documentary titled “25 Years – One Enduring Bond”, produced by Bernama TV Creative Video Unit, highlighting key milestones of the Sultan’s 25-year reign. — Bernama
