KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — Four people were killed in two separate road accidents involving four vehicles in Kuala Lumpur and Kulai, Johor, with both crashes believed to have occurred after cars veered into oncoming lanes.

In an accident involving a Perodua Myvi and a Toyota Vellfire at Kilometer 23 of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), near Bukit Antarabangsa, early this morning, two men were killed.

Ampang Jaya district police Chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid said in the 12.40am incident, the Myvi, which was travelling from Taman Melawati towards Cheras, is believed to have lost control before skidding into the opposite lane.

He said the vehicle then collided with the front of the Vellfire travelling in the opposite direction.

“The Myvi driver sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Ampang Hospital,” he said in a statement today.

He said the Vellfire driver and a passenger were also injured and rushed to Ampang Hospital; however, the driver was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital, while the passenger remains hospitalised.

Khairul Anuar said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters.

A video showing the aftermath of the accident had earlier gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, in Kulai, a mother and her daughter were killed in an accident involving two vehicles at Jalan Senai-Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Senai here yesterday.

Kulai district police chief ACP Tan Seng Lee said police received information about the accident involving a Toyota Vios and a Mazda at about 2.30pm.

He said the accident is believed to have occurred when the Mazda, driven by a 30-year-old woman with her 69-year-old mother as a passenger, skidded into the opposite lane.

“The accident left the Mazda driver seriously injured. She was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital, while her mother died at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

“However, the 30-year-old male driver of the Toyota Vios sustained only minor injuries. The actual cause of the accident is still under investigation,” he said in a statement today.

Tan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
