PUTRAJAYA, Oct 30 — The Cabinet has agreed to amend the guidelines on the management of abandoned vehicles to speed up the process of removing and disposing of such vehicles, following complaints over delays and poor coordination among enforcement agencies.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the proposed amendments were put forward by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) and Transport Ministry (MoT) after taking into account various feedback and complaints about the existing procedures.

He said the current process could take too long and required better coordination among the agencies involved.

“The move follows various feedback and complaints about the existing guidelines and procedures for managing and disposing of abandoned vehicles, which can be lengthy and require better coordination, particularly among the agencies involved.

“The process will be taken forward by KPKT and MoT,” he told a press conference after the Cabinet meeting here today.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said today that KPKT was reviewing the need to strengthen existing legal provisions to address the issue of abandoned vehicles.

He said the proposed improvements were intended, among other things, to clarify the respective jurisdictions of the authorities and expedite enforcement and disposal procedures without compromising vehicle owners’ rights. — Bernama
