PETALING JAYA, Oct 27 — MCA has yet to reach a decision on its position in the Melaka state election, with party president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong saying it is still too early to describe ongoing discussions with Barisan Nasional over seat allocations as having produced a positive outcome.
In a Facebook post today, Wee said MCA had conveyed its dissatisfaction over the allocation of seats for the Melaka polls during a meeting with Barisan leaders late on Monday.
“As for Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s description of the outcome as ‘positive’, I believe we are still some distance from achieving that objective.
“It would be premature to describe the outcome as ‘positive’ at this stage,” he said.
“Both sides need to continue their discussions and I hope we can make a breakthrough within the next day or two,” he added.
Wee said the meeting at 11pm on Monday, held at the instruction of Ahmad Zahid, took place at a Kuala Lumpur hotel and involved Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir and Melaka caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
“Yes, the atmosphere during the meeting was calm and there were no arguments. MCA clearly expressed our dissatisfaction with the seat allocation for the Melaka state election. MCA has always been a party that presents facts, reasons matters out and conducts itself civilly. Any differences will be resolved through consultation,” he said.
Wee said MCA’s future direction and final decision on the Melaka election would be determined collectively by the party’s central leadership.
On October 25, MCA leaders walked out of a Barisan Nasional event in Melaka after objecting to what the party described as a candidate announcement and seat allocation process carried out without its agreement.
