KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today expressed sadness over the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN), describing the development as a lesson for leaders of political coalitions to act fairly towards all member parties and comply with their constitutions and the law.

In a statement, Muhyiddin, who founded PN, said he was saddened by the coalition's deregistration.

"However, this decision is a reminder to any party leading a coalition to act fairly towards all member parties and to always comply with the party constitution and the Societies Act 1966," he said.

Muhyiddin also cautioned against the misuse of power and position within a political coalition for the benefit of a particular party or group.

He said such actions could cause a coalition to drift away from the original objectives and purpose behind its formation.

"Do not misuse power and position in a coalition solely for the interests of a particular party or group to the point where the coalition deviates from its original goals and objectives," he said.

Muhyiddin added that he would discuss the way forward with the Bersatu leadership at a special Political Bureau meeting scheduled for tonight.

Earlier today, the Registrar of Societies announced the deregistration of PN after finding that the coalition's explanation had failed to rebut the grounds for deregistration stated in an earlier notice.
