KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — The Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is closely monitoring the situation in France to ensure the safety and welfare of its 242 sponsored students amid the unrest.

Its deputy director-general (Education) Zahari Aziz said all 242 students were safe, based on the latest reports from student representatives at their respective universities, and none had been reported to have been involved in the unrest.

“Academic activities are continuing as usual. In areas experiencing public transport disruptions, the universities have taken appropriate measures to conduct classes online,” he said in a statement today.

He said MARA, through its overseas office in Frankfurt, Germany, remained in close contact with the students and had reminded them to stay alert and avoid areas where demonstrations were taking place.

The students had also been advised to follow instructions issued by the local authorities and the Malaysian Embassy in Paris, he said.

“MARA would continue to monitor the situation, with the safety and welfare of its sponsored students remaining a top priority,” he added. — Bernama
