PUTRAJAYA, Oct 16 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will provide full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure that investigations into the accident that claimed the life of one of its personnel at KM256 of the North-South Expressway, near the Senawang exit last night, are conducted thoroughly and transparently.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said appropriate action would be taken against any party found to have violated the law or committed misconduct or negligence, based on the investigation findings.

“If there are any legal violations, misconduct or negligence identified through the investigation, appropriate action will be taken against the responsible parties in accordance with the provisions of the law and regulations in force,” he said in a statement today.

Loke expressed deep sorrow and extended his condolences to the family of Negeri Sembilan JPJ Enforcement Assistant Grade KP2 Mohd Azrul Rashid Yaakub, who was killed in the accident while on duty.

“The passing of Mohd Azrul is a great loss, particularly to his family and colleagues who have served alongside him. His sacrifice and dedication in carrying out his duties for the safety of road users will always be appreciated,” he said.

Loke also prayed for a speedy recovery for Motor Vehicle Examiner Grade AB2 Nor Amirudin Rameli, who suffered serious injuries in the incident, and for ease in all matters throughout his medical treatment.

He added that JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli visited the families of both officers this morning to convey his condolences and offer support.

Loke said the Transport Ministry and JPJ would continue to look into the welfare and needs of the deceased officer’s family and the injured officer, including ensuring that appropriate assistance was channelled to them.

Earlier, media reports said one JPJ personnel had died while another was seriously injured in an accident involving the department’s vehicle and two lorries on the southbound North-South Expressway near the Senawang exit last night.

The incident occurred at about 10.50pm while JPJ personnel were inspecting a lorry in the emergency lane.
