KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Integrity must show up in everyday actions, including rejecting bribes, complying with regulations, and having the courage to report misconduct, so society shares responsibility in the fight against corruption.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman said building a corruption-free culture starts with honest decisions and firm personal convictions, supported by sustained commitment from all parties.

“We can progress when there is no abuse of power. The shift towards a corruption-free culture begins with our own honest decisions and firm convictions,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch of the “Program Langkah Merdeka 118, Bersama Perangi Rasuah” programme, held in conjunction with the MACC’s 59th anniversary celebration for Kuala Lumpur at Stadium Merdeka here today. The programme was organised in collaboration with Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Merdeka Ventures.

Azmi said the corruption-free pledge taken by PNB Merdeka Ventures at the event should not be merely a declaration on paper, but must serve as the foundation for a clean, transparent and ethical workplace, thereby safeguarding public trust in the organisation.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohamad Zakkuan Talib said the symbolic act of carrying and hoisting the MACC flag atop Merdeka 118, Malaysia’s tallest building and the world’s second tallest, reflected the commission’s determination to elevate the anti-corruption agenda and strengthen integrity without compromise.

The programme also featured a tower run involving Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia and MACC officers.

Lance Corporal Muhamad Khairul Izwan Mazli from the Cheras District Police Headquarters emerged champion with a time of 32 minutes and 29 seconds, while Wan Norrazif Mohameed from the Kuala Lumpur MACC office finished second, followed by Mohd Hanief Afiq Rosnei from the Negeri Sembilan MACC office in third place.

An integrity exhibition featuring nearly 20 government and private-sector ministries and agencies was also held, with participation from the Health Ministry, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Malaysian Institute of Integrity, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, among others.

Various services were offered, including health and dental screenings, account checks with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), as well as Rahmah Sales, book sales and jewellery sales. — Bernama
