KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — A senior official of a government agency and a company director have been remanded for seven days for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes totalling about RM15,000.
The bribes were believed to be an inducement to secure supply work at the government agency.
Magistrate Aliaa Anwar issued the remand order against both men, effective from today until Oct 19, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court this morning.
It is understood that both suspects, in their 50s and 60s, were detained at 2pm yesterday when they went to give their statements at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly colluded in the act between 2021 and 2023.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohammad Zakkuan Talib, when contacted, confirmed the remand.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
