KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — The federal government today said the Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (e-ART) system would be the main solution for easing traffic congestion in Johor Bahru.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would also add bus routes, increase bus and KTM Komuter service frequency, and provide Grab shuttle services in high-demand areas ahead of the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link opening next year.
“Traffic congestion in Johor Bahru must be addressed immediately.
“Therefore, the government has agreed to implement the e-ART as the main solution,” he said while tabling Budget 2027 at theDewan Rakyat today.
Anwar said the measure is aimed at improving public transport connectivity and easing traffic congestion as cross-border travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore prepares for a major boost with the RTS Link.
On October 2, the Malaysian and Singaporean governments said Passenger service on the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link is now expected to begin in February 2027.
In a joint statement, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (Singapore Grantor) and the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (Malaysia Grantor) said they had been informed by RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) of the revised timeline.
