KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — All Malaysian citizens will be automatically registered as members of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) upon turning 18 to encourage earlier retirement savings, under a measure announced in Budget 2027.

The move aims to strengthen social protection by helping Malaysians prepare for retirement from a younger age.

Currently, employees are automatically registered with the EPF when the fund receives their first employer contribution.

Individuals can also register through the EPF’s i-Akaun application.

The EPF is Malaysia’s main retirement savings fund, with contributions from employees and employers helping members build savings for their later years.
