PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 — Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, who is on a two-day visit to Malaysia beginning yesterday, was accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Min Aung Hlaing at about 9am, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both countries.
Min Aung Hlaing then inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by three officers and 103 personnel from the First Battalion, Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Major Muhammad Nur Addeen Mustaza.
The ceremony was also attended by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Cabinet members, foreign diplomats and senior government officials.
Following the ceremony, Min Aung Hlaing signed the guest book and then proceeded to a private meeting with Anwar, followed by a bilateral meeting involving senior ministers and officials from both countries.
The two leaders are expected to discuss several key issues, including efforts to repatriate Myanmar nationals of all ethnic groups who are in Malaysia illegally, on a voluntary, dignified and safe basis.
They are also expected to review ongoing efforts being implemented through Asean mechanisms. — Bernama
