KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The Ministry of Digital, through MyDigital Corporation, is providing 100,000 learning licences to enable Malaysians to access digital and artificial intelligence (AI) courses through the online learning platform, Coursera.

MyDigital Corporation in a statement said the initiative, offered through the Rakyat Digital portal, provides three months of complimentary access to more than 16,000 courses and Professional Certificate programmes offered by leading universities and industry experts worldwide.

Under the government-funded Global Learning Pass, Malaysians with a MyDigital ID can access courses spanning AI, technology, data science, business and digital literacy from Sept 16, with the licences being rolled out in phases, subject to eligibility and availability.

“Early results show strong engagement, with 12,900 learners enrolling in 43,000 courses in the first three weeks, particularly across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang and Perak, with the most popular course being Understanding Digital Transformation, a custom course created by MyDigital Corporation using Coursera’s Course Builder.

“Designed for beginners, the approximately two-hour course introduces the technologies shaping Malaysia’s digital economy, including cloud computing, modern data centres, AI and machine learning, blockchain, IoT (Internet of Things) and 5G. Other popular courses include Google’s AI Fundamentals, Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere and Foundations of Project Management, reflecting demand for practical, job-relevant skills,” the statement said.

MyDigital Corporation said the initiative forms part of the Rakyat Digital ecosystem and supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 Action Plan (MD2030) and National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, in line with Malaysia’s AI Nation 2030 ambition.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Digital Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar said the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to making AI and digital learning accessible across all segments of society.

“Expanding access to globally recognised courses and professional credentials through Coursera reinforces our commitment to building a future-ready workforce.

“Our primary objective is to empower Malaysians with relevant skills so they can participate confidently and equitably in the digital economy,” he said.

Coursera Global Head of Enterprise Anthony Salcito said the initiative represents a significant step towards building a culture of lifelong learning that supports Malaysia’s AI and digital transformation agenda.

“Malaysia is setting a benchmark for how a nation can prepare its people for an AI-powered future, and we’re proud to be part of that ambition,” he said.
