KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders have filed a judicial review challenging the Registrar of Societies’ (ROS) indefinite suspension of the coalition’s activities, as well as a notice requiring them to explain why the bloc should not be deregistered.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the application for judicial review was filed by the secretary-generals of all PN component parties.

Takiyuddin said the coalition wants the court to quash the show-cause notice under Section 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 and a subsequent order suspending all its activities indefinitely.

“The only reason given (for the two directives) was only that we did not invite Bersatu leaders for a meeting on July 16, 2026.

“But the official complaint by Bersatu was never communicated to us,” the PAS leader and Kota Bharu MP told reporters here today.

The meeting was called to discuss electoral preparations and other coalition matters, he added, noting that PN decided not to invite Bersatu following a July 15 decision by Bersatu’s top leadership to bypass the coalition’s shared banner for the polls.

PN, through its lawyers, had on September 24 sought a meeting with the ROS but has yet to receive a response.

Takiyuddin said the coalition wants the judicial review application to be expedited given that the Melaka state election is approaching.

Coalition leaders said the ROS suspension could disrupt PN’s preparations for the Melaka state polls, with it still unclear whether the coalition can contest under its own banner.

The applicants named ROS director-general Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as respondents.

“We request that the ROS make clear the status of whether PN as a registered political coalition can contest in any elections in Malaysia and therefore name any candidates in any elections, particularly at the upcoming Melaka state polls,” Takiyuddin said.

“And also to avoid confusion we would also request for the official explanation of what Bersatu’s complaint content was regarding us,” he added.
