YONG PENG, Oct 4 — Education Minister Datum Seri Fadhlina Sidek today said the Ministry of Education (MOE) will conduct a thorough review of all matters under its purview following the death of a student in Yong Peng, Johor, while police continue their murder investigation.

In a Facebook post, Fadhlina said she travelled to Yong Peng this morning to personally obtain updates on the incident and received briefings from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Johor Education Department (JPN), the Batu Pahat District Education Office (PPD), and the school involved regarding the chronology of events and actions taken so far.

She also met the victim's family at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail in Batu Pahat, expressing condolences and stressing that the family deserved answers regarding the tragedy.

According to information provided by police, the victim was found unconscious within the school compound and was later pronounced dead. A 16-year-old male teenager has been detained and remanded for six days to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, while the motive and cause of the incident remain under investigation.

Fadhlina said she had instructed that all matters under the ministry's responsibility be scrutinised, including student attendance records for supplementary classes, school security controls, and patrol procedures. She added that the school's security company had also been asked to cooperate with the review.

“If there is any negligence or responsibilities that were not carried out as they should have been, firm action will be taken,” she said.

The minister said MOE would give its full cooperation to police and would not pre-empt the ongoing investigation. Counselling support is also being provided to affected students and school staff.

She urged the public to respect the investigation process and give the victim's family space, saying the truth should be established based on facts rather than speculation.
