KOTA TINGGI, Oct 3 — Umno wil be selective in permitting parties under Perikatan Nasional (PN) from using Barisan Nasional’s (BN) logo should they agree to a political cooperation for the upcoming Melaka state election, said party vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said that only parties deemed acceptable would be allowed to use the BN logo, with only PAS having expressed such an intention

“We have not discussed the matter yet. PAS only expressed such a move to the press.

“This doesn’t mean we have actually agreed on PAS using the BN logo yet,” he told reporters after officiating a groundbreaking ceremony for an Islamic orphanage here today.

On the possibility of Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) contesting under BN due to potential logo

restrictions following the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) recent suspension of the coalition, Mohamed Khaled said BN and Umno welcomes any party that support the coalition.

However, he stressed that allowing any party to contest under the BN logo would be contingent on several fundamental decisions.

“As a house owner, who do we invite into our home? We don’t just invite anyone, except people that we sincerely like,” he said in reference to Umno being selective for other parties using BN’s logo.

Yesterday, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party was prepared to use the BN logo in the Melaka state election if an agreement on cooperation was reached.

He said PAS was open to using either its own logo or BN’s, depending on the outcome of negotiations.
