KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Malaysian athletes on winning three more gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan today, describing the achievement as a proud accomplishment that reflected their outstanding ability and determination.
He said the latest haul brought Malaysia’s gold medal tally to nine as the national contingent continued its campaign to make the Jalur Gemilang proud on the Asian stage, matching Malaysia’s best-ever gold medal haul at the Asian Games, won at the 2010 Guangzhou edition.
“Congratulations and well done to today’s gold medallists,” he said in a Facebook post today.
The three gold medals were won by national track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang in the men’s keirin at the Izu Velodrome, while Malaysia also dominated the women’s and men’s team squash events at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena.
In the women’s final, the team comprising Aifa Azman, S. Sivasangari, Aira Azman and Rachel Arnold defeated Hong Kong 2-1, while the men’s squad of Ng Eain Yow, Sanjay Jeeva, C. Ameeshenraj and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal beat Pakistan 2-0.
Anwar also urged Malaysians to continue praying for the success of the national athletes competing in tomorrow’s finals.
“Tomorrow, the battle for gold continues with the men’s padel pairing of Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus, as well as the men’s hockey squad, who will compete in their respective finals. Let us all pray for their success,” he said. — Bernama
