KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Rapid KL has begun installing platform safety barriers at stations on the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines, starting with Putra Heights, where work is now 85 per cent complete.

In a statement today, Rapid KL said the project is part of efforts to strengthen passenger safety and improve the travel experience across its rail network.

Installation began on August 1, with Putra Heights selected as the first station for the project.

Rapid KL said the station would serve as a reference point for the phased rollout of the barriers to other stations once installation and operational aspects have been tested and refined.

Putra Heights was chosen because it is an interchange station serving both the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling lines, allowing Rapid KL to assess the design, installation process and operational requirements before expanding the project.

Prasarana Group chief operating officer for strategy and development Dr Prodyut Dutt, who is also acting group president and chief executive officer, said the barriers were among measures being taken to provide a safer environment for passengers.

“Passenger safety has always been our priority. The installation of these platform safety barriers is another proactive measure to strengthen safety at stations, while giving passengers greater confidence when waiting for and boarding trains.

“Implementation at Putra Heights station allows us to ensure that installation and operational aspects are properly refined before the project is expanded to other stations,” he said.

Rapid KL did not say how many stations would ultimately receive the barriers or give a timetable for the wider rollout.
