LAHAD DATU, Sept 23 — A man in his 30s died after he was believed to have been electrocuted at Kampung Puyut here today.

The man, who had yet to be identified, was believed to have no identification document and was not recognised by local villagers, said Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid.

He said the department received a distress call at 12.47pm and deployed 12 personnel to the scene, where the man was found electrocuted and was later confirmed dead by Health Ministry personnel.

The victim was retrieved using a stretcher and rope after Sabah Electricity cut off the electricity supply in the area, before his body was handed over to police, with the operation ending at 1.36pm.

Earlier, a man in his 40s suffered burns when a 30x40-foot house at Jalan Hilir was 90 per cent destroyed by fire at 10.32am, with the victim taken to hospital by members of the public and the fire brought under control at 12.09pm. — Daily Express
