KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — A convoy believed to be carrying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at Istana Negeri Sembilan in Changkat Persekutuan here at about 6pm today.

Anwar is expected to have an audience with Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, following developments over the status of the state executive council (exco).

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim are also expected to have an audience with Tuanku Muhriz.

Members of the media began gathering outside the palace at about 3pm to follow developments.

In a statement last night, Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negeri Sembilan Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali announced that Tuanku Muhriz had revoked the appointments of the state executive councillors with immediate effect.

The palace said the decision was made after Tuanku Muhriz found that the exco members had breached their oaths of office.

Azizi said that under Article XXXVIII(5) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, an eexco member, other than the Menteri Besar, holds office at the pleasure of the Yang Dipertuan Besar.

The exco members had taken their oaths and signed pledges of allegiance on Aug 7 before being appointed to the council.

Following the revocation, the menteri besar is required to submit a new list of exco candidates for Tuanku Muhriz’s consideration and consent under Article XXXVIII(2) of the state constitution. — Bernama
