Perodua Alza driver dies after collision with Volvo trailer lorry near Sungai Tong in Terengganu

BANDAR PERMAISURI, Sept 19 — A man was killed after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) he was driving collided with a trailer lorry at Kilometre 38 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu near Sungai Tong here last night.

Setiu district police chief Supt Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said police received information about the accident at 12.01am and identified the victim as Mohd Assfarizal Salim, 44, of Taman Balok Pelangi, Kuantan, Pahang.

“Initial investigations found that the accident is believed to have occurred at about 11.30pm when the Perodua Alza MPV lost control and entered the opposite lane before colliding with a Volvo trailer lorry.

“The MPV driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by firefighters before being taken to Setiu Hospital for treatment after sustaining serious injuries. He later died at about 4.10am today,” he said in a statement today.

Zahril Asri said the lorry driver, who was travelling from Jertih to Kuantan, was uninjured, adding that police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward to the Setiu district police headquarters traffic division or contact investigating officer Inspector Aliah Syafinah Ani Sarudin at 013-6706156 to assist with the investigation. — Bernama
