KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — If the background music was anything to go by, spirits were soaring high on day three of the 2026 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).

Guests and delegates who came as early as 7am were treated to a slew of local classic hits from the 1970s and 1980s as they made their way into the Dewan Merdeka of WTCKL following Umno’s flag raising ceremony and photo session.

From classic hits such as Warisan by Datuk Sudirman, Ilham Pujangga by Ismail Haron as well as Seiring Sejalan by the late Datuk Sharifah Aini featuring the late Broery Marantika.

The playlist was further elevated with the inclusion of upbeat tunes such as Adikku Pandai Menari by Aman Shah, Selamat Pagi Sayang by Noor Kumalasari as well as Ratu Dansa by Carefree.

The choice of songs may be coincidental; however, it nonetheless reflects Umno’s current position, particularly following its back to back win in the recent state elections in Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

The selection also reflects the renewed optimism within Umno’s ranks — elevated by Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim joining the assembly after his release from remand.

Today will also mark the height of the four-day assembly as Umno’s Supreme Council members are set for a motion debate following the presidential policy speech by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Aside from that, the assembly today also hosted four PAS leaders including its vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and its assistant secretary-general Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman.
