GEORGE TOWN, Sept 10 — The Digital Ministry has proposed incentives under Budget 2027 to make digital tools more affordable and encourage their adoption among small traders, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today.

He said the proposals were presented during a meeting with Finance Ministry officials two weeks ago as part of the government’s Budget engagement process.

“Our proposals largely focus on ensuring that technology capable of helping small traders does not merely exist, but is widely used so that its benefits can be felt,” he told reporters after the launch of a photography and art exhibition, Scars of War, at the Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery here.

“The government may need to consider providing incentives to reduce the cost of these tools and related expenses,” he added.

Gobind said the priority was to increase technology adoption and ensure it delivered a tangible impact to businesses and others who needed it.

“I have submitted many proposals, but it is better not to give the details one by one,” he said.

“Let the Finance Ministry make its decision and the prime minister announce it during or before the Budget,” he said.

Budget 2027 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on October 9.
