KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) investigators are expected to arrive in Miri at 2pm today to investigate the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash near Long Lellang, Sarawak.

The New Straits Times reported Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud as saying that the wreckage would remain untouched until the investigators arrived.

“The helicopter wreckage at the crash site will remain undisturbed following instructions from the AAIB... the site has been cordoned off and secured,” he was quoted as saying.

Norazman reportedly said search and recovery operations would resume today, with a Fire and Rescue Department helicopter carrying 18 personnel leaving Miri for Long Lellang at 7am.

Two police helicopters carrying 11 personnel were scheduled to join the operation, while four police officers from Long Lama and four Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency personnel from Miri were also heading to the area.

Police are set to oversee the identification process at Miri Hospital, including DNA comparisons with the victims’ families.

CAAM said the Bo-105 helicopter, carrying five people, crashed near the Long Lellang STOLport yesterday after the Flight Information Service notified the authority of the incident at 3.58pm.
