KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Police are awaiting further instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) after referring an investigation paper on a man accused of causing a disturbance and provoking the crowd during the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on August 31.

Putrajaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed said the investigation paper was referred to the DPP’s office yesterday for further action, BuletinTV3 reported. 

“The investigation paper is still with the DPP’s office and we are awaiting further instructions from the authorities concerned.

“So far, we have recorded statements from seven witnesses to assist investigations into the cause of the provocation, which was reportedly linked to a dispute over seats on the day,” he said when contacted today.

Police had previously reported that a man was detained for allegedly causing a disturbance and provoking members of the public during the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday.

Further investigations found that the man tested positive for THC, a compound associated with cannabis.

Aidi Sham was quoted as saying the 30-year-old suspect turned himself in at the Putrajaya district police headquarters at 12.15am on Wednesday.

Police had earlier recorded statements from seven people in connection with the case, while the 30-year-old cook was detained in Putrajaya after five police reports were lodged against him.

A video that went viral on social media showed a man wearing an orange-brown shirt allegedly provoking people and barging into and pushing members of the public waiting for the seating area gates to open, triggering a scuffle in which several people fell.
