KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a thorough investigation into the accident in Temerloh that claimed the lives of three members of a family returning from the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya.

Extending his deepest condolences to the victims’ families, Anwar prayed that the souls of the deceased would be blessed and that their loved ones would be given strength and fortitude to cope with the loss.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. May Allah SWT bless their souls and grant strength and fortitude to the families left behind,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

The prime minister also reminded all road users to always exercise caution, obey traffic rules and prioritise their safety and that of their families while on the road.

Four people, including three family members, were killed and three others injured in a collision involving 11 vehicles at KM110.4 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT) 1 eastbound, near the Temerloh Toll Plaza exit in Lanchang, Temerloh, at about 10 pm Monday.

Police have identified three of the dead as Muhammad Nazatul Nazmi and his wife, Nur Atiqah Sofiya Mohd Kazwan, both aged 32, and their four-year-old son, who were travelling in a Proton S70.

The fourth victim was Honda CR-V passenger Seow Beng Wain, 55, from Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, Selangor.

The accident involved 11 vehicles, comprising four cars, three sports utility vehicles (SUVs), a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), a pickup truck, a tanker lorry and a bus.

Initial police investigations found that the accident occurred when a cement tanker lorry lost control and crashed into several other slow-moving vehicles. — Bernama
