PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 — The government will channel billions of ringgit seized from illegal activities into public healthcare and education, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today, leading a series of fiscal announcements he said were aimed at supporting low-income groups and small businesses.

Speaking during his National Day Eve address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here, Anwar said the move demonstrates the government's commitment to returning recovered proceeds of corruption and financial crime directly to the public.

"Today I declare that all funds seized from the proceeds of illegal activities through legal processes and decisions by the judiciary will be returned, especially for the people's education and healthcare," Anwar told the audience, including senior Cabinet ministers and top government officials who were also present.

As part of broader relief measures, Anwar also announced a new RM200 million grant scheme under the Geran Sejahtera Madani programme to assist hawkers, small traders, night market vendors, and mothers working from home.

The programme will take effect this coming Tuesday.

The government has also agreed to raise the mandatory e-invoicing exemption threshold from RM1 million to RM3 million in annual sales, as part of reliefs to help the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The new threshold was among the list of measures Anwar said would provide "temporary relief" as his government aims to alleviate living cost pressure and help businesses.

Earlier the prime minister announced the monthly quota for petrol and diesel subsidies would be reverted to 300 and 400 litres respectively, a decision he said was initially intended to be unveiled as a Budget 2027 initiative.
