KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — A video showing several insects believed to be cockroaches crawling inside a food container at a barbecue restaurant in the capital went viral on social media yesterday.

The footage, shared by a Threads user through the @aqilahmaria_ account, showed several of the insects inside a container holding raw meat near a container of prawns, Berita Harian reported.

The user claimed the incident had left her traumatised and reminded the public to check their food before eating it.

“Incident yesterday (the day before). I’m traumatised! I was hungry and then saw something like this. Before eating, check your food first,” she wrote.

Following the video’s circulation and attention on social media, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) conducted an inspection of the premises.

DBKL, in a reply to the user’s post, said its Premises Sanitation Unit under the Titiwangsa Zone 5 Health Office, Health and Environment Department, carried out a follow-up inspection following the complaint.

DBKL said the premises was ordered to close under the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 2016, effective from August 26 to September 9, 2026.

“The closure is to allow the relevant party to carry out corrective measures and thorough cleaning.

“DBKL will always strive to ensure food premises in Kuala Lumpur comply with hygiene and public health requirements, while protecting the interests and safety of city residents,” it said.
