IPOH, Aug 27 — Three men, comprising a Japanese national and two Taiwanese nationals, were arrested by the police on suspicion of being involved in the wrongful confinement of a Chinese national in a premises at Venus Residence, near Seri Manjung, yesterday.

Manjung district police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the Manjung district police headquarters (IPD) operations room received a complaint from a 21-year-old victim via WhatsApp at around 10.30 pm, informing that he had been locked in the house.

He said a team of police from the Manjung IPD went to the scene of the incident at around 12.15 am yesterday and arrested all three suspects, aged between 21 and 33 years, while the victim, who was suspected of being unlawfully detained, was also rescued during the raid.

According to Hasbullah, initial investigations found that the suspects’ motive for doing so was because the victim refused to follow their orders, but the motive is still under further investigation.

“The three suspects and the victim are not known to each other. The victim was looking for a part-time job and got entangled with the suspects.

“The suspects and victim were taken to the Manjung IPD for further investigations, with the case being investigated under Section 342 of the Penal Code and Section (6)(1)© of the Immigration Act 1953/63,” he said, adding that all three suspects were remanded for four days until Aug 29.
