SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — Police believe a brawl that resulted in the death of a man at Taman Alam Megah here two days ago was caused by a feud and turf war between two secret society groups.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said that initial investigations revealed that both groups operate in and around the state capital and are involved in several business activities.

“Initial investigations show that the incident is linked to a hostility or turf war between two secret society groups, one of which is believed to have been recently established in this district.

“To date, we have detained 11 individuals aged between 20 and 39, comprising members from both groups. Five have been remanded for seven days, while the remaining six were brought to court today for remand applications,” he told a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here today.

He said police are investigating the business activities and backgrounds of the groups involved in the clash. They are also searching for several suspects who remain at large after being identified during initial investigations.

Shazeli said the incident at Jalan Mandolin 33/5 also injured several people, including three victims still receiving hospital treatment.

“Statements from eyewitnesses at the scene and relevant parties have been recorded to assist in completing the investigation paper. Detailed investigations are underway under the provisions of the law to identify the leaders and the leadership structure of the secret societies involved,” he said.

A one-minute video dated August 23 circulated online, showing a group of people fighting on the road and one person being struck by a vehicle.

Meanwhile, on the attempted robbery at a jewellery shop in Klang on August 20, Shazeli said the incident involved no loss of jewellery or injuries, but police have obtained positive leads.

“The police are conducting a detailed investigation to identify suspects involved in the attempted robbery. Thanks to information and assistance from the public, we have obtained several positive leads.

“The suspects are believed to be locals who planned the crime by lying in wait for an opportune time to strike,” he said.

Shazeli said investigations are continuing based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other physical evidence to track down all the suspects. — Bernama
